Factors influencing the international students to choose the United States as their higher study destination Prejin Kumar Pradeep Kumar Husson University Abstract The United States hosts more of the world’s 4.5 million global mobile college and university students than any other country in the world, with almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country. However, little research has done on various components that influenced a student to choose a country for higher education. In this investigation, I consider a survey approach on students in selected countries about their preferred study destinations, their reasons for studying internationally, their main sources of information on overseas study and their opinions of the U.S. as a potential study destination compared to other key host destinations. Specifically, the quality of education and research opportunities are the two major factors that students consider before choosing the United States as their study destination.
